This platform serves as a key entry point for data services developed and maintained by UNEP/GRID-Geneva, a partnership involving the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the University of Geneva (UNIGE) and the Swiss Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN).
Originally developed in 2022 with the support and initial funding of the European Commission, the platform was established as part of a dedicated initiative to enhance access to country-level environmental data and indicators. This foundational support played a key role in shaping the platform’s architecture and initial scope. Since then, the platform has evolved beyond its original project framework and funding context. It now provides access to a broader ecosystem of environmental data, analytical tools, and services designed to support evidence-based decision-making at national, regional, and global levels.
The GRID-Geneva Country Data platform aims to facilitate access to high-quality environmental data and to strengthen data-driven approaches within a broad community of users. This includes the United Nations system and its partners, as well as governments, international organizations, research institutions, and other stakeholders involved in environmental data and policy. The platform supports a wide range of use cases, including environmental monitoring, reporting, and policy analysis.
